Accident In Nepal

Driving in Nepal is a challenging task though you have may years of experience and does not matter how good you are.
Nepal is a mountainous country and the roads are with bends and its a zig zag road and observation is very limited.

Its a Miracle

I got a picture in my email sent by a group in yahoo. Its really a miracle. Only few of the people are so so so so lucky that they escaped from this sort of accident. Try to share and try make you friends more aware while driving around or nearby heavy vehicles. The heavy vehicles are top heavy that is its center of gravity is higher. According to the law, the higher the center the less stable is object  or anything.

Driving In Nepal

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE

Drink and drive is one of the major cause of accident  resulting severe injuries or even fatalities. Some of the countries they have 0% tolerance. If you are caught drink and drive, you have to pay heavy penalty and you will lose some points or suspension of license for months which will not only get you upset, you have to bear inconvenience of not having a car, you may lose money as well. I have uploaded some pictures as a result of drink and drive or ride.

Drinkers and smokers are more likely to get an accident because of inhalation of alcohol and nicotine. Because of the inhalation of those things, the drivers visibility be reduced and there reflex action would be slow. So it is proved that drink and drive is a recipe for disastrous accident.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE, ALWAYS FOCUS ON YOUR DRIVING.

8 Biggest Distractions Behind the Wheel

Seeing that Americans spend more than 100 hours commuting to work each year, it’s no surprise that we also eat, drink, talk on the phone, and listen to music as we drive. But just because we’ve become accustomed to doing multiple tasks while driving doesn’t mean that it’s safe. In fact, according to Distraction.gov, a government website for distracted driving, 3,092 people were killed in automobile accidents involving a distracted driver in 2010. An estimated 416,000 were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers. These accidents are completely preventable, and until we make changes in our own driving behaviors, these numbers are likely to rise. Here are the eight biggest distractions behind the wheel:
  1. Music:

Adjusting the radio, searching an iPod, and changing CDs are just a few examples of how distracting music is to drivers. The louder the music, the more distracting and dangerous it can be. Loud music has a tendency to drown out horns and emergency sirens, which could lead to a serious accident. But music isn’t all bad. It can keep you alert and entertained on road trips and help reduce road rage symptoms. The key to keeping music from becoming a dangerous distraction is to choose the music you want to hear before you start driving, keep it at a lower volume, and have a passenger change the radio stations or switch CDs so you can keep your eyes on the road.
  2. Talking on the cell phone:

The cell phone might be one of the greatest inventions of all time, but it’s also one of the biggest distractions to drivers today. Smartphones have only made this worse with the addition of apps and games that require a lot of your attention. According to Distraction.gov, talking on a cell phone while driving reduces brain activity associated with driving by 37%. A less active brain could lead to more accidents. If you must talk on the phone while driving, use a hands-free headset, but it’s far safer to save the call until you stop driving.
  3. Texting:

Texting has become one of the most dangerous driving distractions of all time. The act of typing, sending, and reading text messages takes your eyes off the road for approximately 4.6 seconds, according to Distraction.gov, which is the equivalent of driving 55 mph on an entire football field blind. Distraction.gov also determined that text messaging increases the crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. Texting while driving has caused thousands of accidents and deaths, all of which could have been avoided by not touching the cell phone. Save your text until you’ve safely reached your destination.
  4. Eating and drinking:

How many times have you eaten a sandwich or drank a piping hot coffee while trying to drive? We’ve all done it from time to time, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Add spills, crumbs, and dropped food to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for disaster. If you’ve got to eat or drink while in the car, wait until you’ve come to a complete stop to ensure that you don’t get too distracted and make a dangerous driving mistake.
  5. Passengers:

Bickering, loud talking, and song requests are all examples of distracting passenger behaviors. Passengers have a strong influence on a driver’s concentration and performance. As much as you might want to entertain your passengers or break up an argument in the back seat while driving, you need to keep your eyes on the road. If your passengers are distracting you, pull off to the shoulder and set things straight. Don’t start driving again until you and your passengers have settled whatever it is that was distracting you in the first place. Remember: Your car, your rules.
  6. Applying makeup:

Putting on lipstick or mascara while driving might not seem like a big deal until you ram into the car in front of you. Applying makeup or grooming yourself is very distracting because it typically involves looking in the mirror and using one of your hands. If you must put on lip gloss or brush your hair, wait until you’ve come to a complete stop, but don’t make a habit out of this one.
  7. Reading:

Whether you’re reading a map or a text message, reading is one of the riskiest things you can do while operating a vehicle. Reading takes your eyes off of the road, which could cause you to veer into the wrong lane, hit the car in front of you, or drive off the road. If you need to read a map, pull off to the shoulder or go to a rest stop. If you need to read a text message, wait until you’ve come to a complete stop.
  8. Using a navigation system:

Navigation systems are a huge convenience for travelers and directionally challenged drivers, but these tools can also be a big distraction behind the wheel. If you find yourself lost mid-trip, you might try to redirect your GPS while driving and get into an accident in the process. If you have to reroute your navigation system, pull over to plug in the information and make sure the address is correct before you start driving.

Your car and safety features in your car.

What car do you drive? Are you aware of the safety features in your car? While buying car did you ask about mileage, its power, performance only or you asked about safety features in the car also.

Lots of the car owners buy their car which give more mileage however some of the owners they want high performance car as well.

The manufacturing company has invested lots of money and time in safety features of the car. To be more safe you should be more aware of the safety features in your car. Lets discuss few of them which are in my head now.

The most oldest and most efficient one is seat belts. For more safe, everybody in the car should use seat belts as the impact would be same for all in the car. Some of the countries like India, Nepal , Srilanka the use of seat belts is very rare however in GCC countries the law is strict an every passengers in the front seat must wear seat belts.

Airbags & side impact airbags, some of the vehicles air bags are provided only for the front passengers however in other cars like GMC savana airbags for every passengers.

Crumple zone, a vehicle parts mostly to the extreme front and extreme rear which can deform easily in case of accidents and this part absorb the main impact.

some other safety features are: day time running lights, auto reversing or auto parking , adaptive cruise control, traction control, ESC, ABS and many more.

Though you have all the safety features in your car and if you go faster and in case of accident that safety features mean nothing.  if you have any comments, please write in comment field.

POSITION YOURSELF IN DIAGONAL

When there is two or more lanes, do not drive parallel or side by side to other vehicles. Position yourself in diagonal position to other vehicles around you, when you are travelling in multi-lane system in similar speed. If you are driving side by side, you could be in blind spots to other drivers and may lead to accidents. This is very important while negotiating roundabouts and when there is heavy vehicles to your side. Do not overtake them while negotiating roundabouts, Be in diagonal pictures.

I have got some pictures of accidents because of driving side by side with heavy vehicles or trailer with containers.

What are the things you can check on tires?

Post your answers on comments. Provide answer on details. Like what we can check and how we can check. Example: Check air pressure. How much air pressure you need in your tire? HOw do you know how much air pressure you need in your tire? and so on

Experts View on using left leg on brake pedal while driving.

A week back i was assessing a driver in his automatic car, as a basic i was looking Head, Hand, Leg and the road ahead. I found that he was using left leg for his brake, to get his view i asked him a question, why you are using left leg for your braking, he said i m being ready for prompt reaction. Though i suggest him to use only right leg for his brake and accelerator. He asked me "is there any safety reason".. I mentioned about what if he got manual car. do you guys have any answer for his question.
ARJUN

brenda curtis • I train for the paratransit industry. I have had 2 drivers using their left foot on the brake. I was unable to pass them because passengers would not receive a safe or comfortable ride. There is to much risk driving this way.

Kermit Krieger Obviously todays average driver can't handle even the concept of Left foot braking let alone give their driving the total attention required to be compleatly safe. Most people just endure the task of driving to get from point A to point B while most of their attention is directed elsewhere. I have observed this attitude during over 4 million miles of driving buses and "big rigs" where one sits at a higher level than those in cars and can observe the many distractions going on from that vantage point. Cell phones are a very small percentage of the distractions I've seen. Looking at the passengers while talking to them is the most typical also turning compleatly around to disipline children in the back seat occurs all too often let alone the many others such as applying make-up, eating, retrieving something dropped on the floor, and even reading. Heaven forbid we could ever expect the average driver to peactice the safe and efective way of left foot braking by resting the foot next to the peadal, not on it and with adequate practice not bracing on the accelerator in a panic. Even though we could cut accelerator to brake reaction time easily in half and prevent many accidents by so doing I give up the cause. As always we reduce everyone to the level of the least capable.

Rudy Wiebe Can someone please explain how it would be quicker to move the left foot from the floor to the brake pedal than it is to move the right foot from the accelerator to the brake? IF one is looking far enough ahead and reading the traffic, rather than just at the vehicle immediately in front of, then most often you can 'anticipate' what's coming and remove your foot from the acceleratror to 'cover' the brake pedal and be ready to brake if/when needed. This of course would require that you leave adequate 'following distance' and of course that you actually are giving attention to your driving.

Bob Joynt • Rudy, it is possible depending on the vehicle, training and experience, in heavy traffic. with animals & kids running alongside the road and other drivers who do not play by the rules it can be an effective technique for "Some" drivers with training and experience. I am not referring to "Riding" the brakes or touching the brake pedal until needed.

david pepperdine • Arjun, on your post of 8 days ago you asked, "What you suggest for those who are using one for brake and the other for gas" I would suggest that if they must use that method they should have lots of experience in using it before driving in traffic. but to be honest I cannot see any advantage in using the left foot . If you are reading the road and planning correctly your foot should be over the correct pedal when it is needed and if it is not, then (as posted on these forums regularly) you are not driving correctly and safely

Keith Lane • . Rudy, I fully agree with you – Whilst there are a few specialist vehicles, i.e. single-seat racing cars, go-carts, etc, that are designed for 2-footed operation where the left foot is permanently hovering over the brake pedal, for the typical driver in a typical road car, there will be absolutely NO time difference whatsoever between:– lifting the right foot from the gas pedal, moving it sideways, and pressing the footbrake pedal, or lifting the left foot from the footrest, moving it sideways, and pressing the footbrake pedal. However, everyone seems to have missed 2 important situations where 2-footed driving is necessary – 1. After driving through deep water, it is necessary to keep the car moving with the gas pedal whilst simultaneously gently using the footbrake to wipe, dry, and warm the brake shoes / pads. 2. Whilst manoeuvring on a steep gradient with an auto transmission, it may be necessary to maintain revs & power with the gas pedal whilst simultaneously controlling speed with the footbrake.

Road Signs

While driving and observing traffic signs, We see the outline or shapes of traffic signs and they are universal and generally 3 basic geometrical shapes ( Circle, Triangle, Rectangle) are used. The learner driver and experienced driver should understand the meaning of those shapes. Shapes are very important while driving. If the driver is driving away from his native country where language is completely different and the driver can't read the language, understanding of shapes will help the drivers as each shape has a meaning. For example,
In the picture, you saw a circle with Red outline and white background. Now the question is, what does circle mean? Forget about the things inside what is mentioned inside the circle. The sign is Obligatory signs, or that is you MUST NOT do that.

To make it more clear, lets talk about what could be inside that circle, It could be speed limit, no entry, no parking, no overtaking. If you do that its illegal or violation of law and could be dangerous or you will lose money or accumulate black points. Lets discuss about circle but with different color,

Circle outline is white and background is blue. What does it mean? Its a law but its mandatory, you MUST do that like, minimum speed limit, follow direction.

Now lets talk about triangle.

Triangle is also used in two different ways.
1) Upright
2) Inverted

Alongside picture is upright which means its a WARNING or HAZARD SIGN. You will see the sign from far behind and should slow down and it warns you that there is a hazard ahead. Inside the triangle there could anything like right or left band, intersections, traffic lights, animal crossings, pedestrians crossings, humps, roundabout, max. allowable height, slippery surface, stone falling areas and many other hazards. Triangle inverted means its a GIVE WAY SIGN. Priority is for other vehicles, you can join the traffic unless clear.

The next shape you can see is RECTANGLE. You may see it in different colour. Blue, Brown, Green. Anything in rectangle is information for the drivers.

Finally the unique sign is STOP sign. Experienced drivers Can you draw the shape of STOP sign? Most of the drivers think its circle however its not circle.

You realized its octagonal (eight sided).

Its not always possible to put road signs. So instead of road signs they put road marking. Visit Road marking posts.
